Family Math Kit

The Family Math Kit is designed to support families to use evidence-based math practices at home. The Family Math Kit includes activities and resources the whole family can enjoy together. Students learn that math has real life applications and can be fun. The activities can be used by migratory parents/families who are not literate in English and/or a home language. The strategies can be used in any language.

Preschool Reading and Math Learning Kit

The Preschool Initiative, a former family engagement consortium, created easy-to-use Learning Kits for in-home use with preschool migratory children. The kits contain all the materials, books and activity cards needed to conduct the activities. Using this resource, staff can guide children through the activities such as making predictions, retelling events in the stories, sorting shapes, and making patterns. Parents are encouraged to join the fun and continue the activities. These are intended to use for home-based/outreach sessions, can be carried out with minimal training, and are easily replicated. Preschool Resource Rubrics

The former family engagement consortium Preschool Initiative created four rubrics that provide information on curricula and learning materials for year-long preschool (pre-k) programs, summer pre-k and JumpStart to kindergarten programs, and parent training/home instruction. Preschool STEM Activities

The Preschool Initiative, a former family engagement consortium, facilitated several hands-on, inquiry-based activities with migratory preschool students and their families from the book Making and Tinkering with STEM: Solving Design Challenges with Young Children by Cate Heroman. These fun, interactive, and thought-provoking activities are designed to stimulate children's (and parents') critical thinking skills while engaging families in creative ways. Each key design challenge is supported by a poignant text that serves to build or elicit background knowledge.
