The family engagement consortium I2MPACT has produced a set of videos designed for parents and caregivers to share useful information about the resources and services provided by different community agencies. In addition to resources and services, the videos include specifics about how to access the services, and how the agencies are important for children's learning. Decision Making Unit

The middle school years are a time when adolescents are growing, changing and asserting more independence. It's also a time when they may be faced with tough or important decisions that can have lasting effects. This unit on decision making was created by the family engagement consortium I2MPACT to help families better understand how the middle school age child's brain develops and how to coach kids to make well thought out decisions. The materials are intended to be used with the students and their parents/caretakers so they can talk about what it takes to make good decisions. Educators, refer to the Facilitator's Guide for an overview of how to use the materials.

Growth and Development Learning Kits

Middle school is a time when when children are growing and changing, asserting more independence, but still need the strength and guidance of their parents and caretakers. The family engagement consortium I2MPACT created the Growth and Development Learning Kit to help migratory families address the changes kids are going through and ensure that lines of communication remain open as kids are faced with tough decisions during these critical years. Maintaining open, honest and productive conversations between children and parents is essential for maintaining healthy living. The Learning Kit is designed to help middle school students and their parents/caretakers talk about the physical, social, emotional and intellectual changes that are taking place during these crucial years of development. The presentation contains information and activities designed to elicit or build background knowledge to better prepare the families to use the materials in the Learning Kit. It also showcases the resources contained in each kit including a wordless picture book, a teen workbook, a deck of conversation cards and a journal, which educators can replicate in additional kits. Each week, participating parents receive short texts with fun facts and easy tips to promote their children's development and learning. Tips include activities families can do that build on existing routines, like count the number of steps as they walk to the car or bus.
